Tilta Focus Gear Rings Overview & Examples
Tilta Focus Gear Rings – Thoughts and Usage
Tilta Focus Gear Rings are a great tool if you are looking to replace clip/clamp on style follow focus lens gears. These flexible plastic rings are stretched (do this step gently!) around the lens barrel and placed on the focus ring. When doing this make sure that the edges are straight so that you don’t have any curvature. And that is it, get the correct side for your barrel diameter, put it on, make sure it is snug and straight, and you’re ready to film with your non geared photography lens.
Depending on your vendor, they cost between $2 and $10 dollars, and so far have been very durable.
Pros:
- Eliminated the slipping of clip/clamp on focus rings
- Affordable
- You can cut them in half to adjust for focus ring size or get 2 out of 1
- Many sizes available so they are compatible with most lenses
Cons:
- Final diameter is based on your lens barrel so you may have to adjust the follow focus when changing lenses
