Diffusion Socks VS Color Gels Lighting Samples – Video

by | Oct 21, 2021 | Cinematography, Cinematography Blog, Equipment Example, Lighting

In the video above, I compare Colored Diffusion Socks to standard Color Gels from Roscoe, Lee, and inexpensive 3rd parties. As you will see, the diffusion socks offer inconsistent diffusion and de-saturated tinting, compared to the gels that don’t change the light type and achieve much more richly saturated colors.

These may work for you if your primary goals are: VERY inexpensive, diffuses light, compatible with moonlight style heads, and tints light to certain colors.

If you need reliable color saturation, gels or color-accurate RGB lights offer much more reliability!
